The Right Gardening Tool Can Make All The DifferenceThe garden tools featured on our site come from the San Joaquin Valley. It is one of the largest fruit and vegetable growing areas in the country. These gardening tools have been used for many years by the farm workers to plant and harvest their tasty crops. The Korean HoeThe Korean Hoe is centuries old. Researched by Dr.John Bartok of the University of Connecticut, it is perhaps the oldest metal gardening tool know to mankind. The Korean Hoe dates back to the iron age - and possibly to the bronze age. It is still hand-forged and used by landscapers and home gardeners to this day. Shaped like a little plow, with double curves for greater strength, the Korean Hoe is great for:
“Order came in today @ 11:26am and the tools are great!
I knew the Japanese Hori-Hori should be if made in Japan, oh WOW it is A+ craftsmanship!!!! Thank you. (I have many tools from Japan for Bonsai, so I know what to look for in their tools). The Korean Hoe is a hand pounded metal and I always wanted to make things like this. Wish I could watch and learn from the craftsman themselves.” — William Pugh Hori-Hori (Japanese Knife/tool)The next tool is a Japanese Knife/tool (Hori-Hori). This all-in-one tool will dig, cut, slice weeds, or saw off roots and twigs. "Hori" is a Japanese word for digging. The knife is of high-quality steel, coated with a rust-resistant, flat black finish. Properly held and recently sharpened it will even function as a hand axe for removing good size branches. The knife is excellent for
A short-handled version is also available. The leather belt sheath is also included. Garden ShearsThese gardening shears are patterned after two of the most expensive bypass shears on the market. They work the same way and cut the same amount as the more expensive models, but do not have removable/replaceable blades. These garden shears are competitively inexpensive. So, if they go missing at the end of the day or are misplaced when working the loss is not as great. Garden ScissorsThe gardening scissors are styled after a name brand. The scissor blades are of equal length and are a knife-edge stainless steel. The wide handles are coated with soft plastic for comfort. The blade is the same length as the more expensive brand. The major differences are that the overall length of the more expensive brand is one quarter inch longer and two to three times the price as the one on this web site. Our nursery customers love this scissor for cutting coca matting, dead heading (removing dead blooms from the flowers), and as an all around cutting tool. One nursery customer bought two pairs. She told the sales lady that one was for the garden and the other pair was for the kitchen – to be used in cutting chicken! Long-Nose Drop-Forged ShearsThe next pair of shears fits between the scissors and the garden shears. It is the long-nose, drop-forged shears. They make a nice choice when you don't need to cut a tree limb but want to do more than remove dead flowers. With their rubber handles and eight inch long blades they are great for getting into the tight spots where you need to remove foliage. I am always open to new ideas and products that will help gardeners enjoy their work or hobby. |
